How does compost turn kitchen scraps into food for plants?
কীভাবে রান্নাঘরের ফেলে দেওয়া জিনিসগুলো গাছের খাবারে বদলে যায়?
Choose a dry, shady corner in the yard or a small compost bin. Put a layer of dry leaves or paper at the bottom to help air flow.
শুকনো, ছায়াযুক্ত কোনো জায়গা বা ছোট একটি কম্পোস্ট বক্স বেছে নাও। নিচে শুকনো পাতা বা কাগজ রাখো, যাতে হাওয়া চলাচল করতে পারে।
Put kitchen scraps like fruit peels, vegetable bits, tea leaves in small pieces. Add a layer of dry brown stuff (leaves, paper) after every few green scraps.
ফল খোসা, সবজির টুকরা, চা পাতা ইত্যাদি ছোট করে কেটে রান্নাঘরের বর্জ্য দাও। কয়েকটা সবুজ বর্জ্যের পরে একটি শুকনো বাদামি স্তর (পাতা, কাগজ) যোগ করো।
Spray water so the pile is like a damp sponge, not soggy. Every 1–2 weeks, use a stick or shovel to mix the pile so air reaches inside.
কম্পোস্টের স্তূপটা হালকা পানি ছিটিয়ে ভেজা রাখো, যেন স্পঞ্জের মতো ভেজা থাকে কিন্তু অতিরিক্ত পানি না থাকে। প্রতি ১–২ সপ্তাহে লাঠি বা কোদাল দিয়ে মিশিয়ে নাও যাতে হাওয়া ভিতরে পৌঁছায়।
Tiny organisms and worms break the scraps into dark, crumbly compost in a few months. Mix this compost into garden soil to give plants nutrients.
ছোট জীবাণু আর কেঁচো কিছু মাসে জিনিসগুলোকে কালো, খসখসে কম্পোস্ট বানায়। এই কম্পোস্ট মাটিতে মিশালে গাছ পুষ্টি পায়।
Compost keeps water in the soil better, so plants need less water.
