How does the moon make the sea rise and fall at the shore?

The moon pulls everything on Earth a little with gravity. Water can move easily, so the moon's pull makes water bulge toward the moon. That bulge is a high tide at places under it.
চাঁদ পৃথিবীর সবকিছু একটু টানে। পানি সহজে নড়ে, তাই চাঁদের টান পানিকে চাঁদের দিকে ফুলে উঠতে দেয়। ওই ফুলে ওঠা জায়গায় জোয়ার হয়।
On the far side of Earth, water also bulges. This happens because Earth is pulled more toward the moon than that water, so water is left behind. The two bulges make two high tides each day for many places.
পৃথিবীর দূরের দিকেও পানি ফুলে ওঠে। কারণ চাঁদ পৃথিবীকে ওই দূরের পানির চেয়ে বেশি টানে, তাই পানি কিছুটা পিছিয়ে থাকে। দুই পাশে ফুলে ওঠায় অনেক স্থানে দিনে দুইবার জোয়ার হয়।
The sun also pulls on the ocean. When the sun and moon line up, their pulls join and make bigger tides (spring tides). When they are at right angles, the pulls partly cancel and tides are smaller (neap tides).
সূর্যও সমুদ্রকে টানে। সূর্য ও চাঁদ সারিবদ্ধ হলে তাদের টান মিলবে ও বড় জোয়ার হবে (স্প্রিং জোয়ার)। যখন তারা সমকোণে থাকে, টান আংশিকভাবে কেটে যায় এবং জোয়ার ছোট হয় (নীপ জোয়ার)।
Most coasts have about 2 high tides and 2 low tides each day because of the moon's pull and Earth's spin.
চাঁদের টান ও পৃথিবীর ঘূর্ণনের কারণে বেশিরভাগ উপকূলে দিনে প্রায় ২টা জোয়ার ও ২টা ভাটা হয়।
