Leaves make shade. Shade blocks hot sun from pavements and houses. Shade makes the air feel cooler for people, and it keeps cars cooler too.

পাতা ছায়া দেয়। ছায়ায় মানুষের ঠান্ডা লাগে আর গাড়িও কম গরম হয়।

Trees release water vapor from their leaves. This is called transpiration. The water vapor cools the air a little, like sweat cools your skin.

গাছ পাতা দিয়ে পানি‑বাষ্প ছাড়ে। এটাকে ট্রান্সপিরেশন বলে। এই পানি‑বাষ্প বাতাসকে একটু ঠান্ডা করে, যেমন ঘাম তোমার ত্বক ঠান্ডা করে।

Roots make tunnels in the soil. Rainwater goes into these tunnels. This stops water from making big puddles and flooding streets.
