Asha loved the small river behind her house. She played there after school and watched fish and birds.
আশা তার বাড়ির পেছনের ছোট নদীটাকে খুব ভালোবাসত। সে স্কুল শেষে সেখানে খেলত আর মাছ ও পাখি দেখত। একদিন সে নদীতে প্লাস্টিক ব্যাগ আর বোতল ভাসতে দেখল।
Asha loved the small river behind her house. She played there after school and watched fish and birds. One day she saw plastic bags and bottles in the water. Asha felt sad and promised to help the river.
আশা তার বাড়ির পেছনের ছোট নদীটাকে খুব ভালোবাসত। সে স্কুল শেষে সেখানে খেলত আর মাছ ও পাখি দেখত। একদিন সে নদীতে প্লাস্টিক ব্যাগ আর বোতল ভাসতে দেখল। আশা দুঃখ পেল আর নদীর জন্য সাহায্য করার অঙ্গীকার করল।
Asha told her friend Rafi about the trash. Rafi said, “We should tell Amma and the local teacher.” Together they made a simple plan. They wanted to clean the river on Saturday.
আশা তার বন্ধু রফিকে জঞ্জালের কথা বলল। রফি বলল, “আম্মু আর গ্রামের শিক্ষককে বলি।” তারা মিলে একটি সহজ পরিকল্পনা করল। তারা শনিবার নদীটি পরিষ্কার করতে চাইল।
On Friday they talked to the teacher. The teacher agreed and told the class. Asha and Rafi made posters that said 'Keep our river clean.' The whole class promised to come.
শুক্রবার তারা শিক্ষকের সাথে কথা বলল। শিক্ষক রাজি হলেন এবং ক্লাসকে জানালেন। আশা আর রফি এমন পোস্টার বানাল, যেখানে লেখা ছিল— ‘আমাদের নদী পরিষ্কার রাখো।’ পুরো ক্লাস আসবে বলে অঙ্গীকার করল।
On Saturday many children and some parents came early. They wore gloves and brought bags. At first the work felt hard. But they sang a clean-up song and kept going.
শনিবারে অনেক শিশু আর কিছু মা-বাবা সকালের দিকে এল। তারা দস্তানা পরে ব্যাগ নিয়ে এসেছিল। প্রথমে কাজটা কঠিন মনে হলো। কিন্তু তারা একটি পরিচ্ছন্নতার গান গেয়ে কাজ চালিয়ে গেল।
They found a lot of plastic and old cans under the bushes. Jahan, a quiet boy, picked up a heavy bag and smiled. Asha thanked him and said, “We are helping the river.” Everyone clapped and worked harder.
তারা ঝোপের তলায় অনেক প্লাস্টিক আর পুরনো ক্যান পেল। জাহান, এক চুপচাপ ছেলে, একটি ভারি ব্যাগ তুলল এবং হাসল। আশা তাকে ধন্যবাদ দিয়ে বলল, “আমরা নদীকে সাহায্য করছি।” সবাই তালি দিল এবং আরও উদ্যম নিয়ে কাজ করল।
After a few hours the water looked much clearer. Birds returned and the children cheered. The teacher asked the village council for a big bin near the river. The council agreed to put one there.
কয়েক ঘণ্টার পর পানি অনেক পরিষ্কার দেখাল। পাখিরা ফিরল এবং শিশুরা খুশি হয়ে চিৎকার করল। শিক্ষক গ্রাম পরিষদের কাছে নদীর পাশে একটি বড় ডাস্টবিনের জন্য অনুরোধ করলেন। পরিষদ সেখানে একটি ডাস্টবিন রাখার সিদ্ধান্ত নিল।
Asha felt proud but she did not stop there. She and her friends made a rota to check the river each week. They also taught younger children to use the bin. The river stayed cleaner and life felt happier.
আশা গর্ববোধ করল কিন্তু সে থেমে থাকল না। সে ও তার বন্ধুরা সপ্তাহে একবার নদী দেখভাল করার একটি তালিকা করল। তারা ছোটদেরও ডাস্টবিন ব্যবহার করতে শেখাল। নদীটি আরও পরিষ্কার রইল এবং সবাই আরও সুখী বোধ করল।
Months later, people from nearby villages came to learn. They saw birds, clean water, and smiling children. Asha remembered her promise and felt happy. She knew one small promise had helped many people and nature.
কয়েক মাস পরে কাছের গ্রাম থেকে মানুষ শেখার জন্য এলো। তারা পাখি, পরিষ্কার পানি, আর হাসিখুশি শিশু দেখল। আশা তার অঙ্গীকার মনে করল এবং খুশি হল। সে বুঝল, এক ছোট অঙ্গীকার অনেক মানুষকে ও প্রকৃতিকে সাহায্য করেছে।
