Maya walked to the river with a small basket. She saw plastic bottles and paper near the water.
মায়া ছোট একটা ঝুড়ি নিয়ে নদীর কাছে গেল। সে পানির ধারে প্লাস্টিক বোতল আর কাগজ দেখল। নদীটা ধীর ও বিষণ্ন লাগছিল।
Maya walked to the river with a small basket. She saw plastic bottles and paper near the water. The river looked sad and slow. Maya thought, "I must help the river."
মায়া ছোট একটা ঝুড়ি নিয়ে নদীর কাছে গেল। সে পানির ধারে প্লাস্টিক বোতল আর কাগজ দেখল। নদীটা ধীর ও বিষণ্ন লাগছিল। মায়া ভাবল, “আমি নদীর সাহায্য করব।”
Maya met Rafi on the path. Rafi was carrying bread for his Dadu. Maya showed the trash to Rafi. Rafi said, "We should ask our neighbours to help."
মায়া পথে রাফিকে দেখল। রাফি তার দাদুর জন্য রুটি নিয়ে যাচ্ছিল। মায়া রাফিকে কচরা দেখাল। রাফি বলল, “আমরা প্রতিবেশীদের সাহায্য চাইব।”
They visited Ammi and Abbu at Maya's house. Maya said, "I promise to keep the river clean." Ammi smiled and said, "We will help you." Abbu nodded and offered gloves and bags.
তারা মায়ার বাড়িতে আম্মু আর আব্বুকে দেখল। মায়া বলল, “আমি নদী পরিষ্কার রাখার প্রতিজ্ঞা করছি।” আম্মু হাসল আর বলল, “আমরা তোমাকে সাহায্য করব।” আব্বু মাথা নেড়ে গ্লাভস আর ব্যাগ দিলেন।
Maya and Rafi walked through the lane and spoke to neighbours. They explained why a clean river is good for everyone. Some neighbours promised to help on Saturdays. Others said they would teach their children to keep the river clean.
মায়া আর রাফি গলিপথ ধরে প্রতিবেশীদের সাথে কথা বলল। তারা বোঝাল, পরিষ্কার নদী সবার জন্য ভালো। কিছু প্রতিবেশী শনিবারে সাহায্য করার প্রতিজ্ঞা করল। অন্যরা বলল, তারা তাদের বাচ্চাদের নদী পরিষ্কার রাখতে শেখাবে।
On Saturday many hands came to the river. They wore gloves and put trash in bags. Children collected paper and adults carried big jute sacks. Everyone smiled as the water became clearer.
শনিবার অনেকজন নদীর ধারে এলো। সবাই গ্লাভস পরল আর কচরা ব্যাগে ফেলল। বাচ্চারা কাগজ তুলল, বড়রা পাটের বড় বস্তা বহন করল। সবাই হাসল যখন পানি আরও পরিষ্কার হল।
Dadu taught the children about small fish and plants. He said, "If we keep the river clean, fish will come back." The children listened and promised to care for the river. Maya felt proud and happy.
দাদু বাচ্চাদের ছোট মাছ আর গাছ নিয়ে বলল। তিনি বললেন, “আমরা যদি নদী পরিষ্কার রাখি, মাছ ফিরবে।” বাচ্চারা শুনে নদীর যত্ন নেবার প্রতিজ্ঞা করল। মায়া গর্বিত আর খুশি লাগল।
Weeks passed and the river looked brighter. Neighbours made a rule to not throw trash in the water. Maya and Rafi set a small sign asking everyone to keep the river clean. People followed the rule and the river became lively again.
কয়েক সপ্তাহ পর নদী আরও উজ্জ্বল লাগল। প্রতিবেশীরা নিয়ম করল, কেউ পানিতে কচরা ফেলবে না। মায়া আর রাফি সবাইকে নদী পরিষ্কার রাখতে বলার জন্য একটা ছোট্ট সাইনবোর্ড বসাল। মানুষ নিয়ম মানল আর নদী আবার প্রাণ ফিরে পেল।
One day Maya stood by the water and heard birds sing. She remembered her promise and smiled. Rafi came and said, "We did it together." They watched a tiny fish jump and felt proud of their promise.
একদিন মায়া পানির কাছে দাঁড়িয়ে পাখির গান শুনল। তার প্রতিজ্ঞার কথা মনে পড়ে সে হাসল। রাফি এসে বলল, “আমরা একসঙ্গে করেছি।” তারা একটি ছোট মাছকে লাফাতে দেখে এবং নিজেদের প্রতিজ্ঞায় গর্ব অনুভব করল।
