Asha sat on the veranda with her little lantern. It was a warm night in the village. She saw a tiny light moving in the garden.
আশা বারান্দায় তার ছোট লণ্ঠন নিয়ে বসেছিল। গ্রামের এক উষ্ণ রাত। সে বাগানে একটি ছোট্ট আলো দেখতে পেল।
Asha sat on the veranda with her little lantern. It was a warm night in the village. She saw a tiny light moving in the garden. The light looked lost and afraid.
আশা বারান্দায় তার ছোট লণ্ঠন নিয়ে বসেছিল। গ্রামের এক উষ্ণ রাত। সে বাগানে একটি ছোট্ট আলো দেখতে পেল। আলোটা যেন পথ হারিয়ে ভয় পাচ্ছে।
Asha walked slowly into the garden. The tiny light flew low over the marigolds. Asha whispered, "Are you lost?" The light blinked like a little firefly.
আশা ধীরে ধীরে বাগানে ঢুকল। ছোট আলো গাঁদা ফুলের ওপর দিয়ে নিচুতে উড়ছে। আশা ফিসফিস করে বলল, “তুমি কি হারিয়েছ?” আলোটা ছোট জোনাকির মতো ঝিলমিল করল।
She saw another light far away and heard tiny wing sounds. Asha thought the firefly family might be nearby. She remembered how her amma told her to look carefully. Asha decided to follow the clues quietly.
সে দূরে আরেকটা আলো দেখল আর পাখার ক্ষুদ্র শব্দ শুনল। আশা ভাবল, জোনাকির পরিবার হয়তো কাছাকাছি আছে। তার মনে পড়ল, আম্মু সবসময় বলে মনোযোগ দিয়ে দেখতে। আশা চুপচাপ সেই ইঙ্গিতগুলো অনুসরণ করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিল।
Asha followed small glowing flashes among the leaves and soft wing sounds in the air. She moved slowly to not scare the little firefly. She sang a soft song her amma taught her. The garden smelled of earth and jasmine.
আশা পাতার ফাঁকে ছোট ছোট আলোর ঝিলিক আর আকাশে পাখার ক্ষীণ শব্দ অনুসরণ করল। সে ধীরে এগোতে লাগল যাতে ছোট জোনাকিটা ভয় না পায়। সে আম্মু শেখানো একটি মৃদু গান গাইল। বাগান মাটির আর জুঁই ফুলের গন্ধে ভরা ছিল।
At the mango tree Asha found three small lights hovering together. The lost firefly buzzed and flew toward them. Asha smiled and put her lantern down so she would not block their way. The little lights joined and glowed happily.
আমগাছের কাছে এসে আশা তিনটি ছোট আলো একসঙ্গে ভেসে থাকতে দেখল। হারানো জোনাকি ভনভন শব্দ করে তাদের দিকে উড়ে গেল। আশা হাসল এবং লণ্ঠনটা নিচে রেখে দিল, যাতে তাদের পথে বাধা না হয়। ছোট আলোগুলো মিলে আনন্দে ঝলমল করে উঠল।
The biggest firefly buzzed near Asha and blinked as if to say thank you. Asha felt happy and proud. She picked up her lantern and walked back to the veranda. The garden was calm and full of small lights.
সবচেয়ে বড় জোনাকি আশার কাছে ভনভন করতে করতে এল আর টিমটিম করে যেন ধন্যবাদ জানাল। আশা খুশি ও গর্বিত বোধ করল। সে লণ্ঠনটা তুলে বারান্দার দিকে ফিরে গেল। বাগান শান্ত ছিল, ছোট ছোট আলোয় ভরা।
That night Asha told her amma the story. Amma hugged her and said, "You were brave and kind." Asha learned to watch, think, and help. The garden kept its tiny lights glowing happily.
সেই রাতেই আশা আম্মুকে গল্পটা বলল। আম্মু তাকে জড়িয়ে ধরে বলল, “তুমি সাহসী আর দয়ালু ছিলে।” আশা শিখল দেখা, ভাবা আর সাহায্য করা। বাগানটা ছোট ছোট আলোর আনন্দে ভরে রইল।
