Amina and her brother Rafi loved the small garden behind their house. They played there after school.
আমিনা আর তার ভাই রাফি তাদের বাড়ির পেছনের ছোট বাগানটাকে খুব ভালোবাসত। তারা স্কুলের পরে সেখানে খেলত।
Amina and her brother Rafi loved the small garden behind their house. They played there after school. One evening Amina saw the flowers looked different. She touched a flower and it felt closed. "Why is it closed?" Amina asked.
আমিনা আর তার ভাই রাফি তাদের বাড়ির পেছনের ছোট বাগানটাকে খুব ভালোবাসত। তারা স্কুলের পরে সেখানে খেলত। এক সন্ধ্যায় আমিনা দেখল ফুলগুলো আলাদা দেখাচ্ছে। সে একটা ফুল ছুঁয়ে দেখল, মনে হলো এটা বন্ধ। "কেন এটা বন্ধ?" আমিনা জিজ্ঞাসা করল।
Rafi said, "Maybe it is sleeping." Amina laughed. "Do plants sleep like us?" she asked. Rafi shrugged. They decided to ask their amma in the kitchen.
রাফি বলল, "হয়তো এটা ঘুমাচ্ছে।" আমিনা হেসে বলল, "গাছপালা কি আমাদের মতো ঘুমায়?" রাফি কাঁধ তুলে দিল। তারা রান্নাঘরে আম্মুকে জিজ্ঞেস করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিল।
Amma smiled and said, "Some flowers close at night to keep safe and to rest." She told them to watch the garden at sunset and again in the morning. Amina and Rafi promised to watch. They felt excited to learn.
আম্মু হাসিমুখে বললেন, "কিছু ফুল রাতের বেলা বন্ধ হয়ে যায় নিরাপদ থাকতে ও বিশ্রাম নিতে।" তিনি বললেন তারা সন্ধ্যার সময় বাগানটি দেখুক এবং সকালে আবার দেখুক। আমিনা আর রাফি দেখবে বলে কথা দিল। তারা শেখার জন্য উচ্ছ্বসিত হল।
At sunset they watched the flowers close petal by petal. Some leaves folded too. Amina wrote in her small notebook: "Flowers close at night." Rafi drew a sleepy flower.
সন্ধ্যায় তারা দেখল ফুলগুলো পাপড়ি পাপড়ি করে বন্ধ হয়ে যাচ্ছে। কিছু পাতাও ভাঁজ হচ্ছে। আমিনা তার ছোট নোটবুকে লিখল: "ফুলগুলো রাতে বন্ধ হয়ে যায়।" রাফি একটি ঘুমন্ত ফুল আঁকল।
In the morning the same flowers were open and bright again. Bees came, and the children watched them drink nectar. "So they open for the bees," Amina said. Amma nodded, "Yes. They open when it is time to feed."
সকালে একই ফুলগুলো আবার খোলা ও উজ্জ্বল ছিল। মৌমাছি এলো, আর শিশুরা দেখল মৌমাছিরা রস খাচ্ছে। "তাহলে তারা মৌমাছির জন্য খুলে," আমিনা বলল। আম্মু মাথা নেড়ে বললেন, "হ্যাঁ। মৌমাছিদের খাবার দেওয়ার সময় তারা খোলে।"
Amina felt happy. She learned to watch and ask about nature. Now she and Rafi check the garden every day. They told their friends, and everyone watched the night garden's secret together.
আমিনা আনন্দিত হল। সে শিখল প্রকৃতি দেখে আর প্রশ্ন করতে। এখন সে আর রাফি প্রতিদিন বাগান দেখে। তারা তাদের বন্ধুদেরও বলল, সবাই মিলে রাতের বাগানের রহস্য দেখল।
